You may have spoken with Alex regarding your portfolio performance. He is the brain behind our funds and performance.  Alex Duty is our Portfolio Manager, CFA®, CIPM®.    We would like to share with you a glimpse into his personal side of life.  I have asked Alex a few questions.  Enjoy your read!

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?

It’s nice to have some family time.

What are your hobbies, and how did you get into them?

I grew up playing a lot of sports.  As I get older, golf is really the only one I still ever play.

What’s one thing that can instantly make your day better?

When the market is behaving the way I want it to, that always makes my day better.  By that I mean several positions in our portfolios are doing better than their relevant benchmarks.

What do you love about your job?

I love the variety of responsibilities and the challenge of always trying to find ways to improve upon investment strategies.

What’s your favorite way to spend time with your family?

Family movie night

What makes you proud of your family?

I love seeing my children find a passion in life.  Nella, my oldest, loves acting and swimming.  Allie, my middle child, loves high ropes courses and swimming.  Will, my youngest, loves video games and running.

If you could only teach one thing to your (future) child, what would it be?

If I could teach my children one thing, it would be perseverance.  They will not always succeed in everything on their first attempt.  Oftentimes the biggest successes in life will come after many failed attempts.  If they become too discouraged after a failed attempt and stop believing in themselves, they will never realize those big successes.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Sarasota, FL – where I live

If you could have a super power, what would it be?

I would want to be able to perfectly predict future market performance.
